Renew Docklands
Shopfront Activation Program
In partnership with the City of Melbourne and the Victorian State Government, Renew Australia revitalised the Docklands as part of the City’s new Shopfront Activation Program.
Renew Australia worked with the City, the local community, property owners and representatives to transform empty shopfronts into creative spaces, bespoke displays and fledgling retail spaces. The Renew Docklands Project aim was to enliven this iconic part of Melbourne that has faced serious long-term economic challenges.
The Shopfront Activation Program was designed to rejuvenate areas experiencing significant commercial vacancy through increased foot traffic and activity, whilst supporting Melbourne’s local creative and entrepreneurial communities. By advocating for, and developing projects that will draw people back into this area and its businesses, the Renew Docklands Project was not only able to provide opportunities for local creative industries to trial their ideas, but also benefited existing local businesses.
The program targeted both the Victoria Harbour and New Quay areas within Melbourne’s Docklands.
The Renew Docklands Program has now wrapped!
Our current participants are still open for business, so get down to Docklands to see what these creative businesses and artists bring to the precinct. You can find all the Renew Docklands activated spaces on this digital map. You can even follow the suggested route to tour all of the spaces!
