Docklands Spaces

The Docklands Spaces project was a pilot initiative by Renew Australia, Places Victoria and the City of Melbourne to activate some of the underutilised spaces in Docklands through incubating short-term uses by creative enterprises and independent local initiatives on a rent free basis.
Since its inception in late 2012, the Docklands Spaces project has assisted 21 small businesses, creative groups and community projects to set-up and trial their ideas in Docklands.

A look at the projects involved in the program, reveals a group of people who are passionate about what they do, engaging with members of their local community and bringing life, activity and value to the Docklands area. Collectively, these projects have been responsible for introducing many new people to Docklands, for generating positive stories about the area and introducing a layer of life and activity that may not have otherwise been there.

After three years of activating empty tenancies, the Docklands Spaces project came to an end on 30 June 2016. Read the media release.

Renew Australia, Places Victoria and the City of Melbourne would like to thank the project participants as well as the owners, and property developers and managers who have supported this project and have been involved in donating and activating empty spaces throughout Docklands.
